Welcome to Ballater

Our own ‘Victorian’ village in the heart of Royal Deeside, Scotland, Ballater is in the midst of glorious countryside in the Cairngorms National Park, 43 miles (69km) west of Aberdeen & 8 miles (13km) from Balmoral Castle. Ballater’s local attractions include Craigendarroch hill, Loch Muick, Lochnagar and more! Ballater is famous for its royal connections. Many of our shops and businesses display the Royal warrants of the Queen and Prince Charles.

Over New Year 2016, the River Dee burst its banks, and part of Ballater was affected by floods. As a result, a few of the area’s attractions, shops & places to eat may not be available early in 2016 but Ballater & Royal Deeside are very much open for business. In addition, the Old Royal Station in Station Square was affected by a fire in May 2015. Work begins soon on a new Visitor Centre and Station Square opening late 2017.

Visit our website & Facebook page for up-to-date information to enjoy your visit to this beautiful area in full! Our website is full of Activities, events in Ballater & Upper Deeside plus many local Attractions. Ballater brochures & our Fun Map can be found in local shops or the library in Station Square.
