Deeside Cycling Festival

Family Cycling in the heart of Royal Deeside – 16 – 18 September 2016

For the kids (from 10am – 5pm each day):

 

  • Cycle skills circuit & time trials
  • Portable climbing wall
  • Adventure Aberdeen Cycling Roadshow and bike track
  • Body Zorbing
  • Off-road cycle challenge race for teenagers

 

For the Sportsperson:

 

  • Registration & collection of numbers for Etape Royale from 9.00am on Saturday
  • Early Cyclists Breakfast – Bacon Rolls & Porridge from 4am on Sunday
  • Quilter Cheviot Etape Royale – Scotland’s only 100 Mile Closed Road Cycle Sportive, (starting & finishing in Ballater) - on Sunday 18 September from 6am
  • 65 mile Closed Road Cycle, (starting in Rhynie & finishing in Ballater)
  • 45 mile Closed Road Cycle, (starting in Dufftown & finishing in Ballater)
  • Bike hire & mechanical support from local Ballater bike shops
  • Massage & Sports Therapists (The Green)
  • Free Bike Fitting service from VisualBikeFit to test your riding position & aerodynamics – (The Green)

 

For everyone:

 

  • Traditional Music from the Mad Ferrets – Deeside Inn on Friday 16 September
  • Family Cycle Ride on the Deeside Way cycling to Dinnet and back
  • Guided Walks to explore the history of Ballater at 11am & 2pm on Saturday & Sunday
  • Royal Warrants Trail for the young (& young at heart)
  • ‘Battle Mountain’ film showing (about Scottish cycling legend, Graeme Obree’s quest to break the world land speed record) – 4.30pm on Saturday (Victoria & Albert Halls)
  • Family Ceilidh with the ‘Norse Gaels’ & Stovies on 6.30 – 10.00pm Saturday evening (Victoria Hall)
  • ‘Made in Marr' local crafts & artisan market on The Green in Ballater from 10am - 4pm on Saturday & Sunday.
  • Visit Scotland’s ‘Hieland Coo’ Information Van on The Green
  • European-style street cafes alongside the route serving local food & drink
  • BBQ on The Green with Sheridans Butchers – from 11am on Sunday
  • Rob Wainwright & Rupert Wolfe Murray - Talk about Tackling Challenges & Endurance & Question & Answer session with former Scottish Rugby Captain, Rob Wainwright & adventurer & author of ‘9 Months in Tibet’, Rupert Wolfe Murray – 3.00pm (Deeside Inn) & possibly repeated in the evening, (over a pint or two),
  • Mark Beaumont, (cyclist, adventurer, broadcaster, documentary maker and author) will be making appearances throughout the weekend & cycling in the Etape Royale
  • Promotion of the wider Aberdeenshire cycling offer, (including Sustrans Cycle Routes, Formartine & Buchan Cycle Route, the Deeside Way, local Mountainbike Trails, the proposal for a Mountain bike Trail Centre in Deeside, Cycle Highland's Mountainbike Demo Day on 24 September & the International Mountainbiking Conference in Aviemore in November).
