The Butterworth Online Gallery specialises in original fine art by artists Howard Butterworth and daughter Mary Louise Butterworth. Their work is inspired by the Scottish landscape, its panoramic skies and its ever changing light and moods. Based within Royal Deeside, Aberdeenshire, an area renowned for its outstanding natural beauty and iconic locations, this online gallery features original art exhibitions and the complete collection of their published artwork.
In 1976 Howard Butterworth set out as a full time artist and settled with his family in Glen Muick, Ballater. He set up his easel and began to capture the beauty of the North East landscape in oil paint – inspired by its panoramic views, changing moods and skies
For over 45 years Howard himself has been a feature of the Scottish landscape painting ‘en plein air’ in all elements. Mary Louise Butterworth, the youngest daughter of the family, showed talent and passion for art early on. Their renowned ability to connect with places is just one of the many reasons their artwork remains firmly established in the hearts of the people of the North East and those that visit.
